Drinking and irrigation water restrictions will be in effect in the area after treatment until herbicide residue levels are within levels specified by the herbicide label.  Restriction updates will be provided on this website.

TREATMENT NOTICE

An aquatic herbicide application to treat the aquatic noxious weed Eurasian watermilfoil is planned for Hayden Lake (Kootenai County, Idaho) between the dates of June 17 and June 21, 2013.  The aquatic herbicides DMA 4 IVM (a liquid 2,4-D, EPA Registration # 62719-3) and Aquathol K (liquid endothall, EPA Registration #70506-176) will be applied to up to 130 acres in areas of Hayden Lake to control Eurasian watermilfoil.  Irrigation and drinking water restrictions will be in effect in the area until herbicide residue levels in the water are within levels specified by the herbicide label.  Home owners who use water from the lake for drinking or irrigation are advised to not use lake water until herbicide residue samples indicate it is acceptable to do so.  Restrictions will be in effect for a minimum of 12 days and possibly more depending on residue results.

NOTICE

WATER USE RESTRICTION AREA

An aquatic herbicide application is planned for areas of Hayden Lake between Monday June 17th and Friday June 21st, 2013. DMA 4 IVM (a liquid 2,4-D, EPA Registration # 62719-3) and Aquathol K (liquid endothall, EPA Registration #70506-176) will be applied to up to 130 acres in areas of Hayden Lake to control Eurasian watermilfoil.

Water Use restrictions will be in effect for households utilizing water from the lake that are located up to ½ mile of treated areas for a minimum of 12 days and possibly more depending on herbicide residues.   Refer to the applicator’s website below for up to date water use restriction information.  Restrictions on water use will be as follows:

  • Potable water:  Functioning potable water intakes must be turned off until the 2,4-D levels are determined to be 0.07 parts per million (ppm) or less by laboratory analysis and endothall levels are 0.1 parts per million (ppm) or less by laboratory analysis.

  • Irrigation: Treated water may not be used for irrigation until 2,4-D levels are determined to be 0.1 parts per million (ppm) or less by laboratory analysis (immunoassay). There is no restriction on use of water from the treatment area to irrigate established grasses.

  • Recreational Use of Water in treatment Area: There are no restrictions on use of water in the treatment area for recreational purposes, including swimming and fishing.

  • Animal Consumption:  Do not intentionally use water from the treated area for animal consumption until laboratory analysis indicates that restrictions are lifted. This does not apply to incidental exposure of animals to treated water.

See the website below for a detailed map indicating where restrictions will be in effect. Home owners near treatment areas who use water from the lake for drinking or irrigation are advised to not use lake water until herbicide residue samples indicate that levels in the water are within acceptable use levels specified by the herbicide label.  For up-to-date information about treatment and residue levels visit the applicator’s website at:   www.cleanlake.com/2013idahoewmtreatments.html
